Ambienta Biomasse (Italiana Pellets / Alpin Pellet)

Ambienta I Biomasse included two wood pellet manufacturers: Italiana Pellets (“ITP”) in Italy and Alpin Pellet (“AP”) in France. Pellets are dried and compressed wood or biomass cylinders, ca. 3-4 centimetres long and 0.6 centimetres wide, used both for domestic heating with purpose-built stoves and boilers, and for industrial co-firing along with coal.

ITP (www.italianapellets.com) is the largest manufacturer of wood pellets in Italy, with an annual production capacity of ca. 120 thousand tons. ITP mainly sells pellets for residential heating to large Italian retailers. The company also features a biomass generation plant of 1MW electrical energy, which is fed into the grid, and gas cogeneration of 3MW electrical energy plus 2MW thermal energy. ITP has been divested in February 2013.

AP (www.alpinpellet.com) is an established manufacturer and trader of high quality wood pellets for residential heating, which produces ca. 40 thousand tons annually, trades 10 thousand tons of third party pellets, based in southern France and mainly serving northern Italy. Ambienta sold its stake in AP to a French wood pellet manufacturer in October 2013.
