Environmental Thesis

Coatings are widely used in the furniture industry to smoothen the surface and to protect it from harmful substances, abrasion, and UV light. Solvent-borne coatings, however, constitute a potential hazard to both the human health and to the environment, as solvents are pollutants and usually toxic, volatile and flammable.

Water-borne coatings, on the other hand, are environmentally friendly and allow the elimination of organic solvents, representing an environmental advantage together with favourable manufacturing characteristics for the furniture industry. Especially for indoor furniture in homes and offices where toxic emissions directly affect humans, the water-borne coatings contribute to a healthier life and cleaner environment.

Business

Oskar Nolte is a leading manufacturer of high performance wood coating and lacquer systems for industrial applications primarily in the furniture industry. The company focuses on water borne and UV coatings, and as such develops, produces and delivers solvent-free coating systems in liquid form to wood panel manufactures.

Due to the elimination of organic solvents, Oskar Nolte saves more than 20,000 thousand tons of solvents per year. From its headquarters and manufacturing site in Germany it delivers its high-performance coatings around the globe.

Ambienta joined Oskar Nolte as a key shareholder in April 2015. In May 2018 Ambienta sold Oskar Nolte to the family owned industrial holding company Peter Möhrle Holding.
