Environmental Thesis

REPAKT is a Pollution Control investment for the purpose of Ambienta’s investment strategy.
Packaging represents a significant environmental concern: it consumes vast amounts of natural resources, accounting for 50% of paper demand and 45% of plastic demand, it is often discarded after one use, generating significant residential waste, and has low recovery rates. Ambienta started investigating the packaging industry back in 2016 when the Sustainability & Strategy team published the Ambienta Lens “Packaging: a consumer journey and a material issue”.
Having looked at various investment opportunities, Ambienta launched REPAKT as a consolidation platform in the flexible packaging machinery market in 2019, with the view of building a company able to help the global producers of packaging products to embrace environmental sustainability across its multi-faceted challenges and opportunities. Through its wide machinery offering, REPAKT is able to support the most demanding players in the packaging industry as they seek to offer more sustainable solutions in a variety of end-markets through the adoption of more sustainable materials (paper and bio-compostable or recycled plastics), and reduced material usage.
In.Pack machines contribute to the recycling of over 25,000 tons of materials and the avoidance of over 2,000 of pollutants on a yearly basis.

REPAKT Machinery is a buy-and-build project promoted by Ambienta and aimed at creating a leading player in the design and manufacturing of high-end automatic machines for sustainable packaging solutions.
The platform was started in 2019 with Italian company Amutec, whose machines are recognized for their leading capabilities in processing recycled and bio-compostable films at the same speed and quality as virgin films to create a wide array of bags and envelopes, thus enabling the adoption of more sustainable materials in many end-markets. In 2020 the platform was extended with two other Italian companies Mobert and SCAE, which shared the same core values, and the group was rebranded In.Pack Machinery. In July 2022 Ambienta completed the transformational acquisition of French/American company HolwegWeber, one of the two global leaders in machinery able to create paper-based bags and envelopes, thus entering in the highly attractive paper-based packaging, which represents another key environmental trend in packaging. With this acquisition, the REPAKT group was born. In November 2022, the platform was extended with the acquisition of the Swiss company Karlville Swiss, an upcoming contender in the pouch-making machinery market, allowing In.Pack to also add to its catalogue a product (pouches) which is gaining increased adoption as an alternative to rigid containers, allowing up to 70% material saving.
As a result of this buy-and-build project, REPAKT achieved a comprehensive product offering addressing resilient end-markets such as food service, food retail, e-commerce, waste, consumer goods and industrial applications, a broad geographical reach and a unique sustainability proposition, becoming a leading player in its reference market.
